.We Carry General Liability Insurance This type of insurance protects your property in the event that the damage is caused by the contractor. This means that the insurance company would pay for the cost of repairing any damage occurring on the job site.
.We Carry Workman’s Compensation Insurance Workman’s Compensation Insurance protects you from liability if a worker is injured while on your property. If a contractor doesn’t carry Workman’s Compensation, you may be liable for any injuries suffered by employees of the contractor when they are at your home. Be aware that most homeowner’s insurance policies specifically exclude coverage for injuries to hired contractors.
.We Are A Member of the Better Business Bureau (With an A Rating!) This is a benefit to you for various reasons. First, these associations attract only conscientious contractors who are interested in improving the industry and weeding out unprofessional builders and remodelers. Second, in order to become a member, these associations investigate a contractor’s background and references. Third, all members must sign a written code of ethics and pledge to professionalism. We take this pledge very seriously.
.We Will Pull Required Permits Most homeowner’s insurance policies require pulling a permit on any major remodeling to keep your home properly covered. Not all contractors will do this because of the time involved and the expected “hassle” with inspectors. Some contractors aren’t able to pull permits because they are unlicensed, or the work is outside of their license. A reputable contractor will pull a permit on every job where one is required.
.We Will Provide You With Written References Your contractor should gladly provide you with references. You should look for a well-established contractor who can give you several customer references- usually previous customers from the last six months to a year.
.All Work Is Supervised Make sure the contractor or his job supervisor is on the job whenever work is being performed. This individual must be intimately familiar with all aspects of your project. If you won’t be home during segments of the construction, you will be leaving your keys with this person, and should feel that he/she is trustworthy and able to uphold your requests with the crews when you are away.
.A Significant Percentage Of Our Business Comes From Referrals When a significant source of a contractor’s business is derived from repeat and referral business, it indicates that their clients are pleased with the work that has been done. A significant percentage of our business is referral-based.
.We Are Experienced A contractor should be experienced in the type of remodeling you are looking to have done, not just have “contracting experience”. Our area of expertise is the application of SmartColor™ and related preparation and carpentry.
.Our Job Sites Are Expertly Cleaned Upon Completion A clean work site is fundamental to a smooth remodeling project. A contractor should clean up any debris at the end of each day and dispose of any rubbish at the conclusion of the work. We guarantee that your home will be left “broom swept”.
