In 1998, at Williams College in Massachusetts, two hard-working entrepreneurial students, Chris Ripley and Rick Dudley met and formed a friendship. At the time, Rick owned a seal coating business in Canton New York, and Chris owned a one-man residential painting company servicing western Connecticut and eastern New York State. Over the next five years those small ventures learned how to overcome challenges, gained invaluable experience, and created processes for success.
Trend/Findings:
Meanwhile, Chris started to hear/notice a trend, home owners grumbling every time they had to repaint their homes, this got him thinking and it motivated him to help the homeowners and stop the cycle of painting. Seeing this opportunity and realizing that the Boston, MA market was flourishing at the time, Chris and Rick joined forces, utilizing their strengths as Lifetyme Exteriors, LLC. However, Lifetyme had their work cut out for them. Finding the answer meant first researching the development of paint, sealants and bonding agents.
Results:
Lifetyme Exteriors, LLC extensive investigation revealed that residential paint had actually stalled/moved backwards in its evolution over time, lasting only a few years on homes as the homeowners suggested. However, Lifetyme found that coating materials, used mainly in industrial settings, were lasting several years longer. This suggested that coatings had evolved, and may be the solution to every homeowner’s dilemma. Subsequently, Lifetyme’s desire to produce an innovative coating for residential homes became their highest priority.
In 2009, Jamie Clark relieved Chris Ripley as co-owner of the company along with Rick Dudley, and he has been a huge part of growing the company into what it is today.
Action:
Lifetyme knew they could not do it alone, so they went to the experts. Therefore, with the help of 
chemists, professionals in the aerospace industry, and most importantly the largest manufacturer of coatings in North America contributing to this new research and development project, Lifetyme Exteriors, LLC has brought exterior coating, caulking, and bonding agents into the 21st century. These innovative products: SmartColor™ coating, SealSmart™ caulk, and SmartPrime™ bonding agent can protect and beautify the home in a way that paint never has. Collectively using these new materials in the residential market, Lifetyme Exteriors, LLC has created a ground-breaking coating process called the Smart Permanent Coating System™.
Smart Color (manufactured by the largest paint & coatings producer in North America), is a special blend of resins, polymers, and high-grade titanium dioxides that have never before been available to the homeowner for residential use. Manufacturers refer to the type of formula as “micro-clad technology,” because the coating creates a weatherproof shield that can be applied to any surface material including stucco, brick, wood, aluminum, vinyl, and cinder block. “It is a versatile application, which is another one of its many strengths,”

Lifetyme Exteriors LLC is a proud member of the Better Business Bureau (With an A Rating) and is currently one dealership, in a collection of numerous certified national dealerships, installing the Smart Permanent Coating System™. These dealerships service the states of California, Connecticut, Oklahoma, Indiana, Massachusetts, and Nevada. The demand grew so large for Lifetyme Exteriors LLC’s material innovations and Smart Permanent Coating System™ that SPCS, Inc. was formed to handle the run over of dealership inquiries.
